Disappointed with the recent changes at Delta Airlines? Ready to jump ship and try another carrier that rewards Delta elite flyers with a status match / challenge? Below I go over some of the possibilities for Delta Medallions, including a specifically targeted offer from Alaska Airlines.

Airline elite status matching is a promotional strategy airlines use to attract frequent flyers from competing carriers. It allows travelers with elite status on one airline to receive a comparable status on another airline without having to meet the typical requirements. This encourages brand switching by allowing loyal customers of one airline the opportunity to experience the perks and benefits of another airline’s elite status instantly.

Alaska Airlines

For a limited time, Delta members can get Mileage Plan elite status through 2024 when they open an Alaska Airlines Visa card or by completing a 90-day challenge. If you have Delta status through 2024 and open one of their credit cards, they will elevate you a notch higher in their program.

Mileage Plan prioritizes flying over spending, and allows for earning elite status and miles with 28 global partners.

How to Apply:

  1. Submit your status proof by October 31, 2023 using the links on the promotion page.
  2. Alaska Air will match your status in the Mileage Plan™ for 2023.
  3. To maintain your status through the end of 2024:
    a. Keep an active Alaska Airlines Visa® card by 12/31/2023 or
    b. Complete a status challenge within 90 days.

This is an amazing offer to upgrade your status and move over to a oneworld partner. I’m actually considering it despite being a million miler on Delta and a SkyMiles member since 1984.

JetBlue

JetBlue is in on the Delta specific action as well. For a limited time (until 10/31 or until 30K offers are accepted). Similar to the Alaska offer, JetBlue will match your Delta status for the rest of 2023 and automatically extend it through 2024 if you are approved for a JetBlue credit card before 12/30/2023.

If you’re not interested in the credit card route, you can extend by earning anywhere from 6 to 30 tiles by 12/30. Tiles are earned for each $100 you spend on JetBlue or for each $1000 you put on a JetBlue credit card. See our JetBlue TrueBlue Overview for more information about JetBlue’s Mosaic elite program, and the JetBlue website for information about this status match promotion.

United Airlines

United Airlines offers a status match program but it may not be a great option for those fleeing Delta this late in the year unless you plan on traveling a lot before the new year. United provides an attractive deal, but the latest your challenge period can start has already passed — September 3rd. You’re expected to earn PQF and PQP requirements before 12/31, so the closer we get to that date, the tigher it could be.

That said, United is one of the most compariable airline to Delta in terms of routes, lounges and equipment so it may be attractive nonetheless. And if you have Delta status locked up for 2024, like I have, you can always wait until next year and see what their offer looks like.

To maintain a Silver level matched status you’ll need to earn 4 Premier Qualifying Flights (PQFs) & 1,300 Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs) on United or United Express flights during your 120-day (or less) challenge period. To maintain Gold, you’ll need 8 PQFs & 2600 PQPs. For Premier Platinum it’s 12 PQFs and 4,000 PQPs.

To begin your match with United, you’ll need to completed a Status Match Challenge Form.

American Airlines

American Airlines only offers status match challenges from time to time but may offer you one if you call customer service and explain the situation (800-882-8880). Last time I saw the opportunity, it was in the form of a promotion, and it required an upfront payment around $200. I’ve also seen opportunities through FoundersCard, if you’re a member of that club.

Southwest Airlines

Southwest only matches to A-List level (their bottom tier) from any level Medallion. Once registered, you’ll have 90 days to fly 3 round trips or 6 one-ways to extend A-List status for an additional 12 months. See the southwest.com Promotions area for more information.
