The British Airways Executive Club rewards program offers customers the opportunity to earn and spend points on eligible purchases. With no lengthy application process, members can start earning Avios and tier points with their purchases and redeem them for exclusive flight discounts, upgrades and access to airport lounges. British Airways Executive Club offers customers a range of benefits to make their journey as convenient as possible. With the ability to earn points quickly and redeeming options for flights, car rentals and hotel stays, British Airways Executive Club is an appealing rewards program and worth a second look. This article will review the Executive Club rewards program, tiers/benefits offered and partners associated.

Executive Club

As an Executive club member you will accumulate two different types of points on eligible purchases called Avios and Tier Points.

Avios Points

Collect Avios points by flying with British Airways and its partners in the oneworld® alliance as well as through a range of other purchases, car rentals and hotel stays. You can also purchase additional Avios (for about $40 per 1,000 points) or transfer them from one British Airways Executive Club account to another for a fee (unless you reach Gold). Avios are strictly for spending on rewards and do not expire as long as your balance is active. After an absence of activity in your account for three years, your Avios points expire. The amount of Avios you earn per flight is based on your ticket, class of service, route, tier level and airline. You will always earn a minimum of 125 Avios per flight, however to accurately determine the amount of Avios points you will earn per flight use the British Airways flight calculator.

What British Airways Says About Sustainability

“Proud to be industry leaders in tackling climate change, we’re driving urgent action towards net zero carbon emissions by 2050. We’re investing in the development of sustainable aviation fuel, zero emissions aircraft and enabling you to act on your emissions. Helping to reduce our impact on the environment, we advocate for respectful use of resources across our supply chain, eliminating single-use plastic and reducing food waste.”

Tier Points

While you are earning Avios points on eligible flights and purchases, you can also accumulate Tier Points when you fly with BA or partners. Your Club Tier Status will increase based on the number of Tier Points you accumulate and in turn unlock additional benefits. Tier Points are not used towards free flights or rewards will reset to zero at the end of each membership year (the anniversary of when you joined). In order to see the amount of Tier Points you will earn per flight is based on similar criteria for earning Avios points. The British Airways flight calculator lists Tier Points earned as well as Avios.

Tiers

BA Executive Club offers 4 tiers to it’s members, and the higher your tier status level the more benefits you receive.

The first tier offered in the Executive Club rewards program — you will automatically be enrolled in the Blue tier status when you become a member. Benefits associated with this tier level is as follows:

  • The ability to collect Avios and Tier Points on flights
  • The option of sharing your Avios points with family or friends. Up to 6 members of your household, including children are eligible for this benefit.
  • Priority over non-members on waiting lists and standby.
  • Certain “member-only” offers

Bronze

In order to reach the second tier level you will need to earn 300 tier points and fly at least 2 eligible flights per membership year. All of the benefits offered in the Blue tier are included with Bronze as well as:

  • Priority boarding and priority check in.
  • Free seat selection 7 days prior to departure.
  • 25% bonus Avios
  • Priority service at baggage service desks.

Silver

To achieve this status level you need to earn 600 tier points and have flown a minimum of 4 eligible flights in your membership year. Additional benefits associated with the Silver tier status level are as follows:

  • Earn 50% bonus Avios
  • Access to business lounges
  • Free seat selection at booking
  • Extra baggage allowance

Gold

The final tier offered by British Airways is the Executive Club Gold. To reach this top tier status level you need to to have accumulated 1,500 tier points as well as flown on 4 eligible flights per calendar year. All of the benefits and perks offered in the lower tiers apply as well as:

  • Earn 100% bonus Avios
  • Access to First lounges
  • First class check in and boarding
  • Additional reward flight availability
  • Sharing Avios with others is free of transaction fees

Lifetime Tier Points

A way for Executive Club members to enjoy the perks of the Gold tier indefinitely. Similar to other airlines “Million Miler” status offers, Lifetime Tier Points accumulate over all of your anniversary years. That way, even when your regular tier points expire, your Lifetime Tier Points continue to accumulate. When you have earned 35,000 Lifetime Tier Points, you are automatically enrolled in the Gold tier for life and enjoy its benefits without having to re-qualify each year.

Airline Partners

You will earn Avios and Tier Points on every eligible flight you take on British Airways or oneworld® alliance partners. American Airlines, Qantas and Alaska Airlines are members of the one world alliance and will allow you link your reward accounts to earn Avios points on eligible flights. Using Avios, you can receive discounts and rewards when booking flights. Unfortunately, reward flights, agency discounted fares, and industry discounted fares are not eligible for earning points. If you’re unsure about whether or not your fare class qualifies, contact the airline you’re flying directly to ensure that you don’t miss out on earning rewards.

When you fly with British Airways or their 15+ associated partners, the amount of Avios and tier points you collect is based on a variety of factors. Which airline you fly, length of your journey, cabin class and type of ticket, as well as your Executive Club Tier will all affect the total number of points earned. To get an accurate estimate of how many Avios/tier points you will collect per flight visit the BA Collecting Avios page.

Final Thoughts

To readers based in the US, it’s probably more convenient to use your American Airlines AAdvantage rewards account when flying British Airways since they’re based in the UK and cater more to overseas travel rather than domestic routes. For UK and European based fliers, British Airways Executive Club rewards program is an excellent way to reap benefits no matter how frequently you fly. With multiple tiers of elite status and the ability to earn and redeem Avios points for flights and other purchases, both business travelers and occasional fliers can enjoy the perks of being a member.
