Expedia Rewards is now part of the One Key rewards program launched in July of 2023.

Expedia is a fantastic tool to utilize when you are considering booking a vacation. An all in one travel booking site, it can give you guidance and deals on vacation packages, booking airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals and more. Expedia allows its customer to search and compare prices on your travel plans as well as reviews in order to make your trip as smooth as possible. This article will analyze the benefits/perks of Expedia Rewards program, tiers offered through this company and how to bulk up additional points if you decide to enroll in their rewards program.

Expedia Rewards

Enrolling in the Expedia Rewards program allows you to earn points on your purchases and what I really like about this rewards program is that you are able to earn points on hotels, car rentals and airline purchases at the same time, which Expedia terms “bundling.” What I don’t like about this rewards program is that the exchange rate from points to dollars is poor. For example, 150 Expedia Rewards points equals one dollar saved on future bookings. However the discounts offered on your purchases can be substantial, and earning points in the process is a bonus.

  • Earn 2 Expedia Rewards per Dollar spent on car rentals, hotels and more.
  • Earn 1 point per $5 spent on flights.
  • Your points don’t expire just as long as you don’t go more than 18 months without earning or redeeming points.
  • Membership only pricing options, which usually is a 10% discount
  • Earned points can be converted into dollars for use towards a future trips
  • Book on Expedia’s mobile app and earn double points
  • You may also earn credit card and airline rewards points in addition to Expedia points on applicable bookings

Expedia Last Minute Deals

If you are in a rush for a little R and R, be sure to go to Expedia’s Last Minute Deals page. You will find a number of deals for last minute travel, but usually it’s within a two week window. You will often find 10-40% deals.

Trip Elements

Every time you book a car rental, airline ticket or hotel room you will earn what Expedia calls “Trip Elements.” The more bookings you make the more Trip Elements you will earn and in turn will bump you to the next tier level. As you climb the tier status levels, you will earn additional points on purchases as well as more savings/benefits. Note that Trip Elements must be valued at $25 or more to be counted towards status.

Expedia has a three tier system that unlocks additional perks/benefits associated with the Expedia Rewards program. The more trip elements you collect in a 12 month period the faster you will climb to the top tier. The three tiers are listed as Blue, Silver and Gold.

You will be at the Blue Tier status when you enroll in the Expedia Rewards program. You will have immediate access to savings of 10% or more on selected hotels with members only prices and in addition you will earn double points when you book directly on the Expedia app. Additional benefits include:

  • Earn Triple points at VIP access properties

You will achieve Silver Tier status when you collect 10 Trip elements in a calendar year. In addition to the modest perks offered with the Blue tier status, you will also enjoy:

  • Earn 2 points for every dollar you spend on eligible bookings
  • Free Breakfast and Stay credits at VIP access properties
  • 24/7 expedited customer service via the Silver member number

Gold Tier status is the highest tier offered with Expedia. To gain this tier level you will need to collect 25 trip elements in a calendar year. Blue and Silver benefits are included with this tier status in addition to:

  • You will earn 3 points per every dollar you spend on eligible bookings
  • Guaranteed late checkout
  • Free room upgrades
  • 24/7 expedited customer Service via the Gold member number

If you are booking a trip in the US or countries that are closer to the US and you are already enrolled in a loyalty program with the car rental, hotel or airline company, Expedia may not be the best for booking your trip in terms of rewards. Booking directly with your hotel or car rental company may earn you better rewards. However, Expedia is helpful and will allow you to earn points on your travel purchases and airlines generally award miles etc regardless of where you book, as long as you don’t book a “Basic” level fare. The deals Expedia offers often out-weigh its rewards points system program and in my option are its greatest appeal.
