JetBlue and Etihad Airways Announce Loyalty Program Partnership

JetBlue and Etihad Airways have announced a significant enhancement to their long-standing codeshare agreement by integrating their loyalty programs, effective May 8, 2024. This integration allows members of JetBlue’s TrueBlue and Etihad’s Guest programs to earn and redeem points across both airlines’ networks.

This collaboration extends the reach of both airlines, linking cities like New York and Boston to over 70 global destinations via Etihad. This increases the number of airlines on which you can earn and redeem Etihad Guest miles from 22 to 23 — but is only the second US-based airline on the list, the other being American Airlines. This is notable due to the history JetBlue has with American, and given that nearly a year ago a federal judge ruled that JetBlue and American could no longer continue their “Northeast Alliance.” That alliance allowed customers to earn and redeem loyalty points as well as codeshare flights between the two carriers. This looks like the next best thing for JetBlue in its desire to provide international codeshare and loyalty synergy.

“JetBlue has been an important partner for Etihad for almost a decade and we’re thrilled to be extending this partnership to our loyalty programmes, benefitting both of our airlines’ valued members. We look forward to welcoming and rewarding TrueBlue members,” said Mark Potter, managing director, Etihad Guest. “This also further bolsters Etihad’s commitment to the U.S. market, following the recent launch of our direct service connecting Abu Dhabi and Boston, as well as introducing our popular A380 onto the New York route, expanding capacity.”

Christopher Buckner, JetBlue’s Vice President of Loyalty and Partnerships, noted the mutual benefits of this partnership, which has been flourishing since 2014. The integration not only broadens the travel and redemption opportunities for members but also aligns with the recent changes to JetBlue’s loyalty offerings, such as flexible reward options and expanded status levels.
