Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Rewards program provides members the ability to earn and spend miles on travel expenses. Members of Singapore Airlines’ loyalty program can accumulate miles from a variety of sources, such as flights, hotel stays and car rentals. These miles can then be redeemed for a number of services offered by Singapore Airlines and its partners. This article will take a closer look at the KrisFlyer Rewards program, benefits offered to its members, as well as associated partners and elite status tiers.

Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is the flagship carrier of Singapore, with SilkAir operating as its regional airline for short-haul flights and Scoot serving as its low-cost subsidiary, providing more affordable travel options. As an established international brand renowned for its exceptional service, Singapore Airlines has become one of the most renowned airlines in the world. Customers can choose from a variety of options including five classes within the Singapore Airlines flagship brand and two additional classes of service via SilkAir. Suites, First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class are available in varying combinations on flights operated by Singapore Airlines. Earning Miles on Flights

Booking a paid fare with Singapore Airlines, SilkAir or partner carriers gives you the chance to earn KrisFlyer Miles. The number of miles you can collect depends on your fare class and the airline you’re travelling with. On Singapore Airlines flights, you can expect to earn 50% to 200% of the total miles travelled, whereas SilkAir and Scoot offer lower earning rates. Airline Partners

When flying with Singapore Airlines (or any Star Alliance member airline), the number of KrisFlyer miles you will earn depends on your ticket type. To make sure you get the most out of your journey, be sure to take note of the codes/letters next to the class or fare type. This will give you a clear pitcure how many KrisFlyer miles you will accumulate with each purchase. Singapore Airlines provides a chart that breaks down the amount of miles you will earn on partnered airline flights. The airline partners associated with the KrisFlyer rewards program is impressive and offers its members the ability to rack up miles fast. In addition to being a member of the Star Alliance and connecting partner airlines, members will also have the ability to earn KrisFlyer miles while flying with Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Olympic Air and Virgin Atlantic.

Hotel Partners

The KrisFlyer rewards program from Singapore Airlines offers many advantages to hotel partners. With the KrisFlyer VRooms program, members can earn and redeem miles for stays at 42 partner hotels. Participating hotels include some of the most renowned international luxury brands as well as boutique properties. By earning miles through the KrisFlyer program, members can make their hotel stays more rewarding. A few participating hotel partners include:

  • IHG: Earn 2 KrisFlyer miles per $1 spent.
  • Hyatt Hotels and Resorts: Earn 500 KrisFlyer miles per qualifying stay.
  • HPL Hotels and Resorts: Earn 500 KrisFlyer miles per qualifying stay
  • Marriott Bonvoy: Earn 2 KrisFlyer miles per $1 spent.

Car Rental Partners

Through a partnership with select car rental providers, KrisFlyer members can conveniently earn miles on car rentals. The list of car rental partners is not as impressive as Singapore Airline partners, but nonetheless, offers its members the opportunity to rack up addition KrisFlyer miles. Below is a list of the car rental partners and the amount miles you can earn:

  • Avis: Earn 500 KrisFlyer Miles on car rentals and a 1,000 bonus miles for first time renters.
  • Budget: Earn 500 KrisFlyer miles per rental.
  • Europcar: Earn 500 KrisFlyer miles per rental.
  • Hertz: Earn 500 KrisFlyer miles per rental and 2 KrisFlyer miles for every $1 spent on Chauffeur drive services.
  • Qeeq.com: Earn 2 KrisFlyer miles per every $1 USD spent on rentals.
  • Sixt: Earn 500 KrisFlyer miles per car rental and 3 miles per euro spent on six ride.
  • Zuzuzche.com: Earn 3 KrisFlyer miles for every 10 CNY spent.

Financial Service Partners

Singapore Airlines has 54 Financial Service partners that allow customers to convert their points into miles. Customers can link their credit cards to their Singapore Airlines Krisflyer account, which enables you to increase your miles from the points you have accumulated with you’re respective financial partner.   • American Express: Cardholders can take advantage of the option to redeem their Membership Rewards points for KrisFlyer miles. Conversion rate is 1,000 AMEX points per 1,000 KrisFlyer miles (miles must be transferred in 1,000 point increments).
  • Capital One: From Venture, VentureOne, Spark or Spark Miles Select cards, you can exchange the miles you earn on every purchase for KrisFlyer miles at 1:1 conversion rate.
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards: Customers are allowed to transfer their Ultimate Rewards points to KrisFlyer Miles at an even exchange rate of 1:1.
  • Note that this is the only airline partner of both Amex and Chase Sapphire – giving you the option to combine points from both programs towards flight redemptions.

Earning Elite Miles Towards a Higher Tier Status

Elite miles represent the total accumulated mileage earned on eligible flights, plus any applicable bonuses associated with the booking class. Such accrued points cannot be redeemed for award tickets, upgrades or purchases of airfares. Elite miles are only an indicator of a customer’s loyalty and are used to determine your status within the Krisflyer program. Accumulating elite miles will help you reach reach Silver and Gold tier status with Singapore Airlines. Tiers

Singapore airlines offers three tiers to its frequent flyer members. This portion of the article will breakdown each tier level and the benefits/perks included.

KrisFlyer

This is the first tier offered by Singapore Airlines and members automatically reach this tier when enrolling in the KrisFlyer rewards program. Benefits offered with this tier are as follows:

  • Free to join
  • The ability to accumulate, redeem and receive bonus miles.
  • Members only promotions and deals
  • Mix miles and cash to purchase flights
  • 30% off Additional baggage
  • Miles will not expire for 36 months as long as you account is active. However, miles will expire in 18 months if your account is not active.
  • Personalized inflight entertainment on KrisWorld and complimentary Wi-Fi on all Singapore flights excluding Boeing 737-800NG.

KrisFlyer Elite Silver

Elite Silver is the second tier offered by Singapore airlines. In order to achieve this tier status you will need to accumulate 25,000 elite miles every 12 consecutive months. All of the benefits offered in the KrisFlyer tier are included in addition to:

  • 25% tier bonus on actual miles flown on Singapore and Scoot.
  • Complimentary Standard Seat selection in economy class on all Singapore flights.
  • Automatic selection of the best available standard seat for your traveling group on scoot.
  • Star Alliance Silver Status.
  • Priority reservation waitlist on Singapore airlines as well as on all star alliance flights.
  • Priority standby.
  • Waived or discounted KrisFlyer service fees including 50% off when you change your redemption nominees.

KrisFlyer Elite Gold

In order to reach this tier status level you will need to have banked 50,000 elite miles every 12 consecutive months. All KrisFlyer and KrisFlyer elite silver benefits are included as well as:

  • Worldwide lounge access including Star Alliance lounges.
  • Priority check-in, baggage handling and boarding.
  • Gold Track (Priority Security & Immigration – where available)
  • Complimentary forward zone seating selection in economy class for all Singapore flights.
  • Complimentary upgrade to Business First Class on the Heathrow Express (if available)
  • Star Alliance Gold status

PPS Club

Individuals who fly in suites, first class or Business class on Singapore flights will have the ability to earn PPS value. PPS Value is used to help you reach PPS Club status. With each flight, the amount of PPS Value you earn will vary depending on your fare type and class of travel. It’s important to note that PPS Value does not include taxes – this part of the fare is not taken into consideration when calculating PPS Value. If you have purchased your ticket in a currency other than Singapore Dollars, the airfare and surcharge portions of the fare will be converted into Singapore Dollars for PPS Value calculation. You will not earn PPS value in premium or economy class. This portion of the article will take a look at the two status levels in the PPS club and the privileges that follows.

PPS Club Status

Once you’ve accumulated 25,000 in PPS Value within a your club membership year, you’ll be eligible for the PPS Club. During each membership year, you will need to earn a total of 25,000 in PPS Value to ensure your renewal. Additionally, any PPS Value earned during the same membership year will be saved as Reserve Value and can be used towards subsequent years’ requalification. As a member, you will enjoy benefits and privileges for the duration of your one year membership which include:

  • Lounge Access to Singapore Airlines, Virgin Australia, Virgin Atlantic, Star Alliance and Star Alliance Connecting Partner airlines 1,000 + lounges around the world.
  • Extra check-in baggage allowance: When you and youre immediate family fly on the same flight, each of you is entitled to additional 25kg in Economy Class (Value and Lite Fare Types), 30kg in Economy Class (Standard and Flexi Fare Types), 35kg in Premium Economy Class, 40kg in Business Class and 50kg in first class/suites. Extra bag allowance is also avaliable on all patented airlines.
  • Star Alliance Gold Status.
  • Earn 25% tier bonus miles when flying on Singapore flights.
  • KrisFlyer miles will never expire as long as you are a PPS member.
  • Guaranteed 24 hour reservation in economy class on all Singapore flights.
  • Priority reservation waitlist on all Singapore and Start Alliance airlines.
  • Priority airport standby and check-in options.
  • Priority boarding for all members, regardless of seat selection.
  • Priority baggage handling for yourself and family members.
  • Priority immigration and security: PPS Club members traveling in Premium Economy or Economy Class, will enjoy fast track immigration clearance with priority lanes at selected airports.
  • Fast Track security screening at selected airports

PPS Club Status Emergency Benefits

  • Overseas Emergency Medical and Travel Accident Insurance: AIG Asia Pacific Insurance Pte Ltd’s travel policy covers you for accidents and medical emergencies that occur while travelling by air to destinations outside your Country of Residence.
  • Worldwide Emergency Assistance: This benefits is provided by International SOS which includes: Emergency cash advance and travel assistance. Access to an interpreter and legal assistance. Guarantee of hospital admission and finally travel assistance for one family member is you are experiencing a medical emergency.

Earn PPS Rewards

By accumulating PPS Value, you will also be eligible to earn PPS Rewards. When you’ve received a PPS reward, it will appear in your KrisFlyer account summary. With 30,000 PPS value earned during your membership year, you’ll receive two vouchers that will let you double the miles for a single flight segment. Reach 40,000 PPS value within the same period and you’ll be awarded with a 50,000 miles discount off an award flight.

PPS Solitaire Club Status

When you have banked 50,000 PPS Value within your PPS club membership year, you will be elevated to Singapore airlines Solitaire PPS Club status. As a member, you need to accumulate 50,000 in PPS Value during each membership year to renew your membership for the following year. Any additional PPS Value earned on top of that amount will be saved as Reserve Value, but will expire in three years. All of the benefits offered with the PPS Club status are included as well as:

  • Special Check-in services at Changi airport.
  • First class check in regardless of seat selection.
  • Access to the Plaza Premium Lounge at London Heathrow airport.
  • Welcome gift when achieving or renewing Solitaire PPS club status.
  • Earn PPS rewards: Members who hit the spend milestones of 60,000, 75,000 and 100,000 in PPS Value in a single membership year will be rewarded with an advance upgrade voucher each time. These vouchers can be used to redeem upgrades to higher class cabins.

Final Thoughts

The Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer rewards program is an effective way to get rewarded for your loyalty when flying with the airline and its partners. It offers members exclusive perks and discounts, including points accumulation that can be redeemed for upgrades or flights, priority check-in, boarding and access to airport lounges. The program also offers an array of elite tiers and membership levels to give members more rewards and benefits the longer they remain in the program. PPS Solitaire Club status doesn’t appear to live up to its hype, considering how similar it is to the PPS Club benefits. Overall, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer rewards program is appealing especially if you are a frequent Singapore flyer.
